Frank Maltz
Apr 9, 1984      ז' ניסן תשמ"ד

Frank Maltz was the beloved Grandfather of CBST member, Dr. Randi A. Sarokoff. Grandpa Frank will always be remembered for his mild manner as well as his loving, giving, and thoughtful nature. He loved to teach his grandchildren to play baseball, ride a bicycle, and engage in other physical activities. He always wanted to be an architect, but growing up during the depression did not afford him that luxury. Instead, he spent hours in Randi’s backyard designing and creating a mansion in the form of a doll house.  Grandpa Frank also built his grandchildren a tree swing in their backyard. He was a kind, gentle, and loving soul who cherished his family above all. There was not a thing that he would not do for his daughter (Ileen Sarokoff), wife (Sadie Maltz), or his grandchildren (Randi Sarokoff, Alisa Klinger, Cheryl Bender, and Lauren Michelini). He always gave to his family what he could afford and many times this meant that he and Grandma Sadie would go without. Frank was a spiritual man who loved Judaism. Frank and Sadie kept a kosher home. Although he could not afford a membership to his local synagogue, he attended High Holiday services at the Howard Beach Judea Center where his daughter, son-in-law (Clifford Sarokoff), and grandchildren were members. As sunset approached ushering in Yom Kippur, Grandpa Frank was the first one to start the fast, leaving the festival table to walk to Kol Nidre services.
All that knew him recognized that Frank Maltz left this world too soon. Although Randi’s wife, Mickey Dickenson never met him, his presence, teachings, and love continues to be a part of Randi and Mickey’s home. Randi and Mickey hope that the way that they live their lives will be a blessing to his memory. They continue to light memorial candles for him and attend CBST services on his yortzeit to say Mourner’s Kaddish. Grandpa Frank’s teachings continues to shape their lives. Frank Maltz’s memory continues to be a blessing.
